After picking and buying your stocks, be sure to also enter your positions (the stock and the number of shares owned) on your first worksheet which is your portofolio display. Each week, (Wed. night if possible) update the prices of your portfolio and record your current value on a third worksheet which we will build next week in class. Use the workbook you created in class to record your trades (transactions) and your portfolio value. You can refer to the example one listed in the next column. For each stock you "purchase", enter the information in the next row of the 'trades' worksheet. Do the same for any you sell being sure that you enter the shares in the correct column. You cannot spend more than your $50,000. (However, I will award $2,000 bonus for any student who can explain to me what buying stocks on margin means.)

For each transaction that you log in your transaction worksheet, be sure to update your 'Portfolio' sheet. Each week we will record your current portfolio value to track and graph your changes.

Visit one of the following web sites and create a user login if you do not have one.

Each site is organized differently, but each allows you to create a pretend portfolio. Create a portfolio and enter in your stock information including at a minimum the ticker, number of shares, and trade date. Once you save your portfolio, the web site will automatically retrieve the current price of each stock, making it easy for you to monitor your portfolio's value.
